convert va to watt

Re/output capacity of a conditioner. Does this sound like it might be in the ballpark? Found a formula that says when va is 1000 multiply that times 0.714 = 714 watts. This stuff just isnt my cup. Ill bet there are exceptions to this. If the son of Q is rated at 1000VA output I would say its 714 watt rated. Agree? Thanks, Skip
