Power filtration through using 220/110V step down transformer? True or not...

What do you think about a theory of my friend who claims that using 110/220V step down transformer on low power devices such as a CD player for example would also act as a current filtration.

We came to this topic as I was inquiring if using a 110V device in Europe via step down transformer would harm its sound or not. He claims that it would more likely sound better than without SDT as it would also mean isolation from the network.

My only problem with this logic is that if it correct why don't we all use players via SUTs or STDs.
