David pretty much hit the nail on the head, the density for these kinds of pre-formed pipe insulation.In addition to the problem with the density being on the high side, I have found through experimentation, that when I tried to use material that was already at te desired density, it did not sem to work as well as taking the fluffy fiberglass and compressing it. May have something to do with the presence of a lot more resin to bond the higher density material, but it just is not equivalent.
Some folks have reported decent results with the use of the pre-formed pipe insulation, but invariably, they have not compared their DIY assembly to a commercial product, or one of my original recipe DIY bass traps (which is roughly equivalent to the ASC devices). Something is always going to be better than nothing, but is it performing at the same level as a more optimized asembly?
