A quick and cheap one is to rub yourself on the arms with a dryer sheet. Sometimes we 'cat-sit' for the vet clinic's resident cat, and those times when she gets a charge built up, wiping her with a dryer sheet takes care of things instantly. Also, if the cold has really dried out and chapped your skin, you will retain a LOT more of a static charge. Skin moisturizer works wonders sometimes for static, especially if you're reaching for a tonearm.
