The Madisound Froy III kit is a bit over your 1 grand price at around $1200. Butit is a superb small speaker with tight bass into the mid 40s, flat response, and high quality parts. It does appear to be a bit on the 'white' side of flat balance wise which can be a problem with some commercially bright software but that's the nature of the beast. I used a custom made set for years and now use them as mid/tweeter modules crossed around 85 hz to 18" woofers. And I rarely hear speakers that make even consider changing.
