1.) It uses 3.3v, not 5v. You're wrong.
2.) Self powering helps. There's examples of how to self power such a chip in the data sheets for such. However, one thing they don't tell you is that if you do as they suggest and unplug the USB cable, you'll eventually kill the pcm2704. You'll need some logic to prevent this from ultimately happening.
3.) The crystal is probably a waste of time. The jitter depends largely on what happens once the clock gets inside the 2704.
So, it is what it is...at least with respect to the forgoing.
That said, C11 and C12 can be upgraded. That helps...
