Tweaks for systems, rooms and Do It Yourself (DIY) help. FAQ.

You know what I love about this hobby....

is that sometimes you just don't know what sort of little changes are going to have a dramatic impact on your system's sound.

So I've had this MSB Platinum Plus D-A for about 5 years... I think that it is amongst the best D-As that I've heard and it sounded great in my system (Watt/Puppy 6, Audio Research Ref., and monos).

Now I have tried a few footers, points, roller-balls, etc. and generally did NOT think that they made a lot of difference except on my turntable (Sota Millennia) where it is a mechanical device. So my TT is down (waiting for a new cartridge to arrive) and I have been listening to CD a bunch...

Well the MSD Platinum has been sitting on these sorbothane footer things pretty much since I got it. So I am cleaning up some old audio stuff in the garage and I come across this old set of conical footers with sharp points. I figure "what the hell, I'll try them on the MSB." Well you guessed it....WOW++!! The image stability and soundstage improved dramatically.... Now I'm kind of a sceptic about these "tweaks" but this was NOT a small improvement. Bass power and definition improved dramatically. Now I am amazed that I thought the system sounded good before.

I have experiment extensively with power cords, from moderately expensive to very expensive, and this improvement was equal to or greater than the improvement from the best PCs I tried.

I don't know what this says about the design and build of the MSB (that footers make such a difference) but I don't care... I am just amazed and chuckling about this cheap tweak...

What fun!! MG
