Re: Using only one "half" of Mundorf duoble electrolytic capacitor?

24.82.202.68

Hi Rob,

original capacitors are rated for 160V maximum and they are used in circuit that operates at approx. 140V. In my opinion to close to maximum rating. I can by Black Gates 100microF/160V (Standard Type)
but I would have same issue plus these are lowest quality Black Gates. They have 100microF/500V (WKZ type - $88US Each) that are top quality but total cost for 5 of them would be more then what I have paid for the new amplifier. Does not make sense! I have searched web and Mundorfs are only ones that look OK: quality, size and price-wise OK. The only possible "issue" is that they are made as double capacitors and I can use only "half" of each.
I have also finished 4 years of electro technical school, way back in mid seventies, (but not worked in that field ever) and I still remember advice given to us to always use higher rated capacitors since it will prolong their life expectancy and minimize chance of capacitor being destroyed by voltage. Fact that different voltages will develop different capacity (of the same capacitor) is new to me.

Thanks and regards,
Zricak
