instead of bi-wire jumpers?

this is probably picky but is there any reason to use jumpers (other than the sotck plates that most everyone seems to dislike)on bi-wire terminals instead of just connecting the wire to the lower posts and then passing it to the upper ones (using raw wire through the pin holes on the posts)?
