Tweakers' Asylum Tweaks for systems, rooms and Do It Yourself (DIY) help. FAQ. |

After a few years of trial and error, I now have my system pretty well dialed in, with no urgent need to continiue on the component upgrade merry go round. That said, I was interested in ensuring my source component could be the best it could be so I researched vibration/isolation platforms. I recently purchased and installed a Neuance platform, and I thought I could share a few observations without needing to write a formal review.I was surprised at how light the platform was and the high quality of the product & packaging given the price ($225). Soundwise, I tested it with Reference Recordings "Dick Hyman, From the Age of Swing". Not sure why I picked it, but it was clear to me that the platform provided a more delicate environment from which all the instruments were detailed in a fashion I had not heard before. The interplay between piano, horns, bass, cymbals, etc was ever so pristine and detailed (not in a bad way)that I must say the purchase was warranted. I found low volume level listening substantially improved. That said, i have not found similar results from some of my more modern pop, blues, R&B CD's. They seem to be too "congested" to allow for any more detailed or subtle improvements.
My recommendation would be that this product is perfect to put the final touches on a synergistic system - but if you are still switching amps, preamps, sources, etc then hold off until you are ready to appreciate what the platform can do with acoustic music. For the money this seems like almost a necessary tweak when you are ready.

- At $8k the Halcyonics is clearly better, thus the qualifier. nt - Norm 10:48:45 01/25/07 (2)

- No, the Halcyonics is more effective for airborne as well as component originated vibrations as well. - Norm 15:22:33 01/26/07 (0)
