Very interesting, Mr. Ted Smith... here my comments/experiences about it...

Hello my friend:

Very interesting post. I like that Granite Slab of yours both because of the weight it gives to the amp and also because of it's exterior looking.

I have some Marble Slabs just like yours under my speakers with great results. I have my System on a suspended wood floor, so during the last few months I have been building a very sofisticated isolation system under my amps to get the very best possible sound from them. I know it is a bit complicated and probably "too much" but I think I got a bit crazy about Damping/Isolation Systems

My system includes the first Marble Slab (resting directly on the floor) to act as an artificial Marble floor and reject all the macro vibrations coming from the wood suspended floor; after that a cuadruple set of three Isolpads (pyramid configuration) and then a second Marble platform to reject any remnant micro vibration coming from the floor. Then a SubDude platform (from Auralex) which is the center of the Isolation System. Over it a set of Mega Mounts supporting a 4" thick mapleshade wood platform, over which a second set of Megamounts supporting the speakers, to drain all the vibrations emanating from their cabinets.

On top of the Speakers I have a HRS Damping Plate with a 1" thick marble slab on top of it both to add some weight and maximize the contact of the HRS Damping plate with the top of the speakers.

My speakers sound wonderfully, sometimes I can't beleive such a clarity, transparency, musicality and abundance of inner detail coming from them.

Now, Clio09 arises a good point regarding to the ringing effect of the granite slab if we put our components directly over them, but I think that ringing effect would be minimal in your case, since I see in your picture you kept the original rubber feet of your amplifier, so I don't think in your case the ringing would be a relevant issue.

I would suggest also to try some HRS Damping Plates on top of your amplifier, they do make a real and audible difference, I have lots of them over my components, all sizes. I would suggest also (as an alternative) to try some Heavy Hats (from www.mapleshaderecords.com) over your components, either themselves alone or combined with HRS Damping Plates; I have some of them over some of my components with good results. As we know, Brass is a very musical metal, you might like their effect equally or more than the HRS Damping Plates, depending both on the kind of music your listen to and your own tastes regarding to brightness, solid bass, etc.

Now, Mr. Smith, you say "I was thinking on using more Polymer couplers under the items" and I think that is a good idea. I don't recall where I read that Mr. Mike Lavits (from HRS) suggests at least a set of 5 all-polymer couplers, stacked, to maximize their accumulative effect. I think he mentioned that number in one interview, not so sure.

Now, for my McCormack DNA225 "Platinum Edition" Power Amplifier I am thinking on a set of "Apex" under it, but not so sure if I would place those "Apex" over a Marble Slab or Granite Slab or I rather place them over a 2" mapleshade wood platform, I think I'll consult with the manufacturer to listen their opinion.

Just my comments, Best, Antonio Machado.
