if you reduce the impedance to 4 ohms,you will double your output capability,but 1/2 of that power will be wasted across the resistor,for a net gain of zero.Not worth the trouble,IMHO...If I understand your description correctly,you will have 1.777 ohm,not 8 ohm...Two drivers in parallel will give you 2 ohms,four in series will give you 16 ohms,2 in parallel with 16 will give you 1.777 ohms.
