Re: Scott Endler's Attenuators

I've used these and the EVS attenuators. If you're running a single source system and your source has high enough output, this could be an excellent inexpensive solution. The sound will mirror that of resistor-based passive preamps. You'll get a lot of detail and transparency versus what an active linestage may offer (at a mere fraction of the cost to boot), but potentially at the risk of losing some dynamics. The loss of dynamics will be system dependent and subject to impedance matching or mismatching. I found a better use for these was in conjunction with a high gain active linestage that required some additional attenuation when used with amps that had high input sensitivity.

I ended up with a K&K passive TVC which for me was a better solution as I ultimately required multiple inputs and felt the TVC did not restrict dynamics as the attenuators did.
