Re: Alan, some implementation questions

EI's are the worst....too much mechanical vibration. The vibration can be greatly lowered by spacing and damping the distance between the metal chassis and bottom half of the transformer. I use a .25" sheet of Microsorb to absorb a good 80% of the vibration and a .25" sheet of EAR C-1002 to control frequency. The transformer is still grounded via the mounting screws and earth ground lead. I only use one EI in my set up and this method worked wonders for lowering mechanical hum and cleaning up the ac. I use bifillar donuts for the remaining set up.

"1) YOu originally wrote about 5' or 6.5' PCs for some wavelength resonance reason or whatever, and I've stayed to that formula with good results in my PCs. So if I do this one with one PC coming into the boxed iso tranny, and one coming out of it, does this mean that I need the total PC length to approximate those dimensions or each/both?"

The trick to designing a good sounding power cord is too keep the lengths in meters. So you could use a .5 meter (18") on the primary and 1 meter (39"), 1.5 meter (5 feet), 2 meter (6 feet 6 inches), etc on the secondary. Any one of these combo's will work fine.

"2) Shielded has worked well for me, floating connected only on source end, in digital so far. So if I try to run this from the wall to the CDP, do I run the shield on the first leg from the wall only or do I need to have it connect all the way to the back of the CDP past the trannies??? Or do you think shielded is unhelpful here anyway? My current PC to this box is not shielded and it works fine. Was just thinking ahead for improvements."

Connect the shield at the wall for the primary. Attach the shield for the second cable to the primary star ground.

"3) I'm currently running a 3 wire grounded PC with the ground running past the trainnies and direcly into the outlet. The outlet is fed by the hot/neutral lines from the trannies, which are both ungrounded by design. Since my CDP is only a 2 wire job, isn't the ground wire unnecessary for wiring directly into the CDP through the iso tranny we're discussing?"

The ground wire is acting as a shield inside the power cord. Use the ground wire to enhance the inductance inside the cable geometry.
