Hi all-
I've recently acquired a Carvin 450 FET that I was going to modify to use for a backup home audio system. I removed the faceplate to paint it and when putting the chassis back together must've mixed up a wire... protection circuit came on immediately, blew the 5A slo-blo fuse.
Being tired and impatient, I replaced the fuse w/ a 4A and powered up. This time, it worked for a moment (w/audio output) and then a small crackle and some smoke, again blowing the fuse. Upon checking for damage, there was a very tiny spot from the flash near a resistor, closest to one of the big capacitors. It seemed nothing was burned up, and none of the caps were opened up. The next day I purchased the correct fuses and checked a wiring diagram for this amp to make sure everything is correctly assembled, which it seems to be. So I replaced the fuse, this time adding a 40w light bulb, connecting to a small capacitor in the path of the power cord. When I plugged the power cord into the wall. even before turning the amp on, the bulb came on and all of the lights on the front panel of the amp came on. When I removed the bulb, nothing... regardless of on/off switch position. Any ideas? Thanks, Dick
