He wants first to convert 60Hz into DC like in switching supply, then instead of using PWM or square wave to drive output, he would like to use sinewave HF 40kHz or so, to drive output device. So instead of PWM he wants to use AM for output stage, or no modulation if it is not regulated output. This is OK to do, but you still get same bad things as with PWM switching supply + one more... alot of heat.
