You're welcome, happy to have a chance to give back. =:-)The recipe I used, adapted to a slightly thinner version of the one found here (search the archives for more info - the one I used is linked below), is, top to bottom:
0.125" 6061-T6 aluminum sheet
0.5" MDF
0.5" closed cell PE foam
0.5" MDF
0.05" 6061-T6 aluminum sheetThe layers are held together with spray-on contact adhesive. Use the ingredients from the rest of the shelves (e.g., I made six total) as a press to hold the affair together while the glue is drying. It helps if you glue one layer at a time. Paint the sides with black paint to make it all look nice.
As far as making a difference, the whole rack did, yes, but I've not experimented with different shelves, so it's hard to say. The more I think about it though, the more I would like to try one of Ken's Neuance platforms.
Regarding the Mana racks, I'd bet it's possible to design something much the same and have a local welder build it for you for less than a Mana costs.
