Teflon is a great idea!

Teflon tape is sold to wrap around pipe threads in plumbing supply stores. It is inexpensive. You can braid three strands of tape to make a string, then braid three of these to make a cord that will support even heavy cables without tearing apart, and provide some mechanical damping.

All materials have dielectric properties. Common insulators such as poly-vinyl chloride (PVC) have a nonlinear response to electric stress. When used in capacitors, or in service of audio gear where the signal's electric fields are present, a particular type of nonlinear behavior, called "dielectric absorption," causes a smearing of the sound.

It is not clear how much effect a couple of small cords used in cable lifters such as those shown would have, but Teflon is probably the best synthetic material. Jute cord could also be used, but it would absorb moisture.
