DIY Cable Lifter: A Few Questions

Hi All,

I would like to make some DIY calbe lifters/elevators instead or just using something like inverted ceramic cups or electrical insulators. I want to make something which looks decent but works well and want to try a design such as the RSA Risers:

- From the pictures and descriptions am I correct in assuming it is simply a solid wooden base, with two solid wooden 'colums' glued on with heavy duty wood glue, and a non-dialectric string in between?
- Are there any other construction/material considerations which may be significant to their performance?
- Lastly, what can I use for that 'non-dialectric string'?

Thanks,
X
