Hi there,>1. why one 22 cap instead of, say, two (11+11) or three (7+7+8)?
One really high quality Capacitor is in my view the better choice. The Ansar SPX Series in their metal Can's (which is what I use normally) have a very different microphonic behaviour than the normal open construction and this has a lot to do with the subjective sound of these Capacitors.
Now by mixing several different value Cap's of the same or similar construction you have more different individual resonances which will be lower in value than with one Cap of larger Value. This is the rationale in general behind "DVPC" (Diseperate Value Parallel Capacitors). But using one overall superior part if you can do so is even better.
>2. why bypassed? what is the sonic difference between bypassing
>or not?I have found that for some unknown reason using a modest amount of bypassing is very beneficial to "tonal colours" and "detail"... I have found that connecting a 2.2nF Silver Mica Cap inside a Speaker X-Over (tweeter) makes an audible difference. Now the "Crossover" frequency for 2.2n and 10 Ohm is about 7 MHz.... And yet there is something audible happening.
Beats me, honestly....
