Re: alternative materials, I also came across a product I wonder might be applicable.I just had new carpet(and pad) installed in my house. Due to the Berber type of carpet ordered and high traffic area use requirements the Flooring contractor recommended a "hair" type carpet pad, in lieu of the traditional foam/rubber pads. The hair pad is available in a number of densities (I recall 5#, 7# and maybe 9#???). It appears to be like a spun rock wool like product(?) with a lightly woven fabric outer layer on each side. The stuff looks ideal for sound/tube trap building. Very dense and already compressed to around 1/2" thickness.
Any feedback if this stuff is worthwhile? I could track down more product specifics if anyone is interested.
