I just had new carpet(and pad) installed in my house. Due to the Berber type of carpet ordered and high traffic area use requirements the Flooring contractor recommended a "hair" type carpet pad, in lieu of the traditional foam/rubber pads. The hair pad is available in a number of densities (I recall 5#, 7# and maybe 9#???). It appears to be like a spun rock wool like product(?) with a lightly woven fabric outer layer on each side. The stuff looks ideal for sound/tube trap building. Very dense and already compressed to around 1/2" thickness.

Any feedback if this stuff is worthwhile? I could track down more product specifics if anyone is interested.
