Jon --

I'm glad you have entered into this -- your instructions are confusing to me, and I'll admit this could be my own ignorance on the subject. if my confusion is because of U.S. terms versus those used somewhere else, I apologize.

Your instructions say the Argent tubes are slightly less than 2" id, but then you recommend 2-1/2" PVC pipe. Pipe is measured by id. I then looked at PVC pipe specifications. Nominal 2-1/2 diam. schedule 80 pipe, which is what I thought you might mean by HD, is actually 2.875 od, 2.289 id. 2" schedule 80 pipe is 2.375 od, 1.913 id. I asked one of our local plumbers, and a good friend, checked on the availability and cost of 2-1/2" schedule 80 PVC. The distributor has to order it and it is slightly over $2 per foot. Definitely not the stuff you find in your local hardware store, plumbing supply house, or Home Depot.

What is sold in those places is typically 2" schedule 40 pipe. This is the stuff that is commonly used for drains, etc. It is 2.375" od, 2.049 id and costs about $0.50 per foot. For the 60 feet I'm considering to build 4 room lens, the difference between the schedule 80, which I had assumed you were specifying, and schedule 40 is about $100. That's a lot of money difference to me.

So my question is, what exactly do you mean by 2-1/2 HD PVC. I would like to build these things right the first time and hope that you can clarify this.

Some talk for an audio DIY bulletin board, huh? Sounds more like Plumber's Unlimited. I did a Web search on pipe and came across some things called Spud Guns. Check these out! And people think audio nuts are sort of extreme. Anyway, thanks in advance for any clarification you might provide. I also want to thank you for all the ideas and plans you have shared and your more than active participation in this and all the questions people ask about your stuff.
