For studio musicians and those who earn a living by having great tone-- absolutely. Actually, NOS are just plain better, but for different reasons in guitar amps than hifi. So much distortion is typically added to a guitar signal that traditional strong point of NOS become less important; the silky, shimmering treble of a fine Dutch Amperex will not really reveal itself. As for "if they are worth it," only you can say. They are better, but not essential. In fact I have heard several guitarist say they like cheap Chinese 12AX7s, or $7.50 JJ ECC83 copies of the legendary Telefunken E83CC ($500+ each) better than $75 NOS, and that the JJ or Svetlana EL34 is totally acceptable if not (in the JJ's case) indistinguishable from a $400 quad of XF2 Mullards. If you are rich, or make a living with your amp.... Chris
