They are somewhat different actually. They are both flat plates but in one they are almost black and in the other they are light gray. They are from 1966 and 1969 I believe. The bases are somewhat different colors as well as the writing, black on one, white on the other. Both have round getter in top and chromed top. Sound very nice and I would like to get more to fill out my set, and maybe build with. I have very little experience with the different sound of different tubes, but I did find they can make significant changes. When I first got the second amp and hooked them up as my stereo, I was dissappointed that the bass in one was very flabby and it would almost motorboat the speaker on some CD's. It had black glass, black plate RCA 6V6's and GE round plate 6SL7's. The other amp had clear glass, gray plate RCA's and black glass RCA 6SL7's. I thought I would exchange the 6SL7's and see if that did anything. It made a big difference, the bass tightened way up on the one amp and opened up nicely on the other.Thanks,
