Yes all our experiences differ and I certainly have not listened to every tube or every piece of gear! Close!I too have tried the JJ 6DJ8. Would have the same observations concerning the tube right out of the box. After a couple of hundred hours, it did mellow a bit, but still retained all the qualities that it first had. I did not care for this tube.
I do agree that things can chance a bit after some time, especially tubes since they are on a slow down-hill decline after that first turn on. I just have never had anything radically change in character after some time. If I didn't care for the sound new, I generally won't like it any better after 'break-in'. The JJ was a good example. Didn't care for it out of the box; after a few hundred hours disliked it less, but still did not care for the tube.
