Hey-Hey!!!,
First get a decent pair of monoblocks. Dynaco Mk.iii comes to mind. Fairly inexpensive and listen to them a bit. then spend some money on a new front end for them.
Goal 1. Familiarize yourself with the workings to a simple tube circuit. You'll be able to get your money back in large fraction depending on what you pay for the original pair.Second is to decide if spending $4k is necessary anymore, if you really need more power then build your own pair of mono's. Single pair of output tubes are capable of almost 100 W for regular Audio. P-P 845 can get really insane to the tune of about 250 without getting too near class B, 100 W won't be too far from A either, and 75W is definately possible in proper class A.
Goal 2. get most performance for $ spent, it is possible to get all parts necessary for even PP 845 for $4k and ooooh Baby!there are many points in between the Mk.iii and the 845 that are equally brilliant and joy to build. best money on tube amp is paying yourself the labor at $50/hr.
regards,
Douglas
