Re: 5751 grey plates 2 mica is a bad option ??

Hi - It really is best to read all you can to get other people's ideas, but you have to listen to the tubes in your system and decide if you like them. The only trust I'd put in other people is if they say a tube is poorly designed and manufactured and cost .50 cents - then I think I'd agree with them. The site you mentioned says that most of the 2 mica were noisy and microphonic, but the 3 mica are mostly pretty good. So if you have 2 mica and they don't sound noisy or microphonic - you might have some of the best. Also the site was posted in March 1999, that's over 3 years ago. New tubes have been found and manufactured since then. Plus the reviewer says all 12AX7 are terrible. Yet the manufacturers continue to design preamps, power amps and instrument amps around them - so are they really that bad?

I realize we all don't have access to try tubes or money to spend buying them just to try - so that makes it tough. You have to listen as much as you can and if you enjoy - use them.
