I've heard the B&W 805's in my system and greatly prefer the SL3's over them. The SL3's will reveal all weaknesses in your system and obviously the amp you're using doesn't have enough power to drive them properly. Try a decent solid state amp. I'm very happy with my McCormack DNA-1 rev A amp.
