hey again,

I know some company was offering this freak el34 for a while, but I guess nobody knows about it. No, strictly, its should not be called an el34 anymore. well, somebody should make these if its as easy as leaving out 2 grids.

As far as el34s being very non-linear... I don't think thats true in general. My ears don't agree for sure. And the mullard data sheets don't seem to indicate that trend overall. I've never heard that they are several times worse than 6550s or kt88s either. Yes, you need to consider the operating points/ conditions.

Also, on triode strapping: Isn't the el34 unique in that it was designed to be optionally run as a triode? The mullard specs have lots of data on triode operation. The triode, class A specs look particularly low distortion (<0.5%).

any pp triode people care to bash the triode el34 based on experiences? I'm still inclined to think that they are much closer than people make them out to be.
