I have jsut the opposite exp. with EL34. It looks on paper like a more linear valve than 6550 and sounds like it to me too( just used Mullard xf2,4 and SVEL34 in U-L and strapped triode, AB1 and 4200 Ohm Plate to plate, betw 450-520 V B+ ) so I'd like to say, I think the High distortion thing is a figment of somebody's imagination or mis-use. But that is MY opinion and experience. I am planning on using the SVEL34 in next construction and would like specific details of the "High Distortion" conditions and measurements....
