I keep reading " no more NOS " since '98 - '99, and that can't be farther from the truth. In fact, such predictions kept me away from tube equipment several years... several wasted years of not enjoying tube sound because good tubes "won't be available for too long", or they'll get "too expensive".
My best tube, Siemens&Halske CCa, is pretty expensive, at more than $150 per pair. But close runner ups are tubes than can be had off E-Bay for $1 each -- 6N1P, a drop in replacement for 6922 in both my preamp - First Sound and my power amp - Cary Rocket 88, confirmed and even recommended by manufacturers and fabulous sounding!!! Other tubes can be had for $5 each off E-Bay -- 6DJ8 Matsushita, fabulous tube also, or ~$10 each -- 6DJ8 Amperex orange globe, a very good tube, too. So I truly fail to see the imminent disapearance of 6dj8 family happening too soon or the prices being in any way prohibitive.
