no more nos 6922s Anyone going back to transistors?

203.27.69.93

I have been reading some very old threads on the subject of the dry up of supply of NOS tubes. I would like an update on peoples thoughts. I have checked Ebay to find that there was hardly a 6922 worth buying on auction. Which is a shame because my setup is finally good enough to utilise in my CD player those used Amperex 6922s I have been saving for when my system would be good enough.
I am now thinking Do I check to see how much I have to pay for a CD player that will better the sound buy it and save the tubes for some other equipment. Or do I locate and spend several hundred dollars on the few nos tubes that are remaining. This tube sound is so good that I can't bear the missing information from the Amperex A frame 6DJ8 type I have been using.
Has anyone had to give up their Tube equipment because you didn't want to pay the price or simply could not find a tube that would satisfy your ears?
Any news on the current production front?
Some old threads suggested that Only the tubes used by guitar amp companies would be produced in the future. Is it time to start looking at 12AX7 based designs rather than 6922's
I don't really want to hoard a stash of tubes. I do have a stash of a couple of types but this is boring and then there comes the fear when are these going to be made obsolete by a current manufacturer producing a top class tube. Its a no win situation for me.
Would a transistor Amp sound better than a tube amp with crappy tubes?
I hope this starts a big debate because I think it is an important issue and the more views that are shared the better.
Thanks to all..
