two other tubes to consider the sovtek kt88, which i use in my sf80's and tesla e88cc which i use in my both my sf80's and my mono 160's (w/svetlana 6550's). i have used these with both electrostatics (quad 63's) and dynamic (dynaudios). in both these amps the use of the telsa's warmed up the output considerably. i've not tried the ei's elites yet (but i think highly of their 12ax7's). your pre-amp is not considered to be warm, i think, by most. you might get some mileage out of changes there. by the way, i've never heard anyone complain about the amount of bass from these sf amp's. this suggests to me that your maggies are'nt a good match.
