I have been using the M1P (with phono) for about 4 years now. It sounds great to me I like it better than the similar priced C-J PV10 (I think)I auditioned them both at the store and walk out the M1 instead of C-J.Noise? well it is not the quietest pre, but work great in my system. Hey! my old Rotel CD player (945RX I think) make more noise than the M1.
I don't know about Assemblage. It was available as a kit and factory assembled right? If you buy use assembled kit, if you can pop the top and see if it well assembled.
If you decised to go with M1 I recommend you re-tube it with better tube. I'm currently use Mullard CV4003 in line stage and Ei 12ax7eg in phono. The Mullard are expensive I'm looking to try the inexpensive Ei 12au7 soon... hope it will as good as thier 12ax7.I also did some parts upgard.
Well, they both great inexpensive tube pre. Very hard to say, only way to judge is to audition them both at the same time.
