Your post was very reasonable. There are generalizations in physics, regardless of opinions to the contrary. I know every generalization has many examples of shrewd designs that work out the problems of ordinary designs, and they are still exceptions to the rule. A generalization is a statistical argument, and people who claim there are no such rules and all are equal have not enough experience with enough samples.With that said, I see a lot of device and topology overlap in terms of performance more now than before.
If I want max something of this or that, I will probably look in the category most likely to deliver it naturally than search out the rare and expensive exception that almost does the same, since it likely still doesn't.
