It always depends on the quality of the amp, transformers. circuit design, etc..My amps use zero negative feedback and Tamura interstage transformers - PP 6L6G. I converted to triode mode - very little sonic difference if any. The power dropped to 7 watts, but as I use reasonably efficient speakers, there is no noticeable drop in volume at the same position on my preamp.
You cannot say "regardless of speakers" because if you are using inefficient speakers, the conversion to triode will not be suitable.
