It's heat from the trannies and tubes. Rather than chopping holes in parts that don't need them, try a small fan to cool the whole thing.
The power tranny on mine gets hotter than I like after extended use, and that heats up the whole amp. A fan cools the whole thing, tubes, trannies and all.
