Fretless, I like for my tube amps to run cool. The main transformer in my homebrew "Williamson style" amp gets pretty warm but no where near too hot to touch. The main transformer in my EICO ST-40 gets hot enough to fry chicken. No, really. It gets HOT. Doesn't seem to cause any problems though. Still, I didn't like all that heat so I installed a small cooling fan. Keeps things much cooler. I suggest that you use a fan of some sort to maintain forced ventilation of some kind through the amp.
