Here's the differences:1. Grey plate vs. silver plate
2. Gold plated pins
3. The Elites are selected for low noise and microphonics, as well as good section to section balance. I've seen very good balance in the 100 or so that have passed through here, BTW.
I think it's safe to say that a good Ei 12AX7 can be an absolutely wonderful tube, and purchasing the Elite series tubes cuts way down on the "less than good" Eis you buy. Some inmates have suggested buying 10 or more of the standard Ei to get a couple pairs of good tubes. That's not necessary with the Elites IMHO. Not that they don't ever have a bad one-I've sent back about 5%- but that's WAY down from the regular Ei line.
