I can't say what the original replacement sounds like, but the full mod sounds supreme. You may want to consider the "upgrade" boards.

I tried the Triode Elec boards on my MkIII's and could never get them to sound great. They sounded better than stock, but they never made my hair stand up or gave me that "holy s#%$" feeling.
You cant go wrong with Joe Curcio's stuff. I have rebuilt my PAS preamp and ST70 using Joe's boards and couldn't be happier.
Lastly, Joe will provide you with support if you run into trouble. I know this first hand.
I suggest you get Joe's ph# off his web site, call him and ask what the sonic differences are.
