Hey, Robert; good to see you in the "house." I read a post of yours prior touting U52s quite highly; I think they are excellent too, but I find early '40s VT series Sylvanias and Tung Sols punchier and w/ better bass, if perhaps at the expense of a bit of refinement when using a U52-- that said, the day I spend $325 for a pair of filamentary cathode rectifiers when the VTs are $5 at hamfests NICB (N. I .CRUMBLY. Boxes.) I will check into a real asylum! All joking aside, I respect your opinion as one of the 2 dozen or so best, most knowledgeable on this BBS-- I have as of late been discovering though that the design and components chosen for a power supply have a far more dramatic effect than a trick rectifier. I love the U52s, the metal GZ34s etc etc; the striking perceived excellence of these is most prominent in a single can cap type power supply; as better caps, bypasses, chokes, swinging chokes ( they let you swap henries for a night) etc are computer modeled and added the differences diminish progessively and virtually disappear, eventually coming down to lifespan and voltage output. Just my (as always) not so humble opinion. (I'm working on the H in IMHO... really....) Chris
