Howdy Steven,I bought the first two from an inmate: One-6SN7W and one-6SN7A, even though they didn't match, they sounded fantastic in my amp. Then one day the left channel started to wail like a dying bloodhound. I was very upset. Not too long after, I bought another single NOS 6SN7W in perfect condition. I stuck it in my amp, and not more than 8 hours of listening went by when the second tube from the original two went-a-wailing. Boy was I fuming...
I went back to using my 1940's Syl. VT-231's. They sounded great of course, but I hated that I had an almost NOS metal base (and two wailing metals)in my tube cache waiting for a use.
My pre uses 6922's and my new amp uses 12AT7's, so right now all my 6SN7's are in the drawer. I have been thinking of selling them, but I have also contemplated buying a Berning Micro-Ztol for headphone use, and if I do, I will use them in it. That would be cool... :)
Thanks, gb
