GZ34 is much different from 5Y3. A 5V4 would be closer, but all rectifiers have different voltage out at a given voltage in, different max capacitance ratings, max PIV (Peak Inverse Voltage= twice the DC in the amp), filament current etc. GZ34 will put out much more voltage and could destroy capacitors, tubes and basically the whole amp. It would be like deciding to put a quad of 6550s into an EL34 amp with no adjustment. GZ34 sub not recommended. Chris
