The reason for the third wire ground is safety, pure and simple. If something "hot"should come into contact with the chassis, the third wire ground ensures that a fuse or circuit breaker will blow, alerting you to a problem, before it can injure you.New equipmet with no third wire ground is required to protect you in some other way, ususally such that you cannot come into contact with a metal chassis part, only plastic.
The advice on the site you mentioned was probably trying to say that by having a ungrounded chassis, you will avoid ground loops when connected to other components. Ground loops can be eliminated in other ways: ensuring safety in a metal chassis with 400-500 Volts inside can only be done by using a third wire ground.
