Hi Claud,
Figured I'd start a new thread as the old one is about to get buried.
Tried the Tele 12AU7's and 6DJ8's in the 2002 this weekend. Damn nice. But not the best. So far, I like the Tele 12AU7's in conjunction with Amperex 7308's the most. The "all-Tele" combination is just a bit too lean for my tastes -- very dynamic, nicely detailed, and great harmonic info, but lacking a little bloom in the lower mids/upper bass. The Amperex seem to put some of that back into the picture. Someone with a system that is overripe in that area may find the Tele combo to be perfect though. This is not unlike my experience with the SLP-98: I liked the CBS/Hytron 5692's in the gain position, but adding another pair to the buffers was just too much -- I got better results using a different tube there (Sylvanias or a regular Hytron (non-CBS) 6SN7). If I had to live with an "all-Tele" combo in the 2002, I could be real happy. Much better than the stock Sovteks and Philips, but I think it's even better with a mixture, at least in my system context.
