I Listened to the Previous SE version One Evening

63.13.8.72

I was fortunate enough to listen to the previous version of this amp earlier in the year. A friend had it on loan from another individual. The amp was set up with NOS RCA 2A3. Speakers were JBL L100. A VAL pre amp, and a one box Kinergetics cd player. This listening sesion is what sent me down the SET road. The music was very involving, vocals were so textured and detailed. The only thing that I could find at fault was that the bass was somewhat loose. But when I left I knew I had to have this sound at home. Eventually I rounded up an AES se 811. It has many of the attributes of the 2A3. Not quite as magical in the mids I think, but better bass control, and dynamics. U know Cary never built a SE version of this amp, and sometimes I wonder what would happen if you were to make the power supply upgrades to it, like the smaller amp has. Oh well as good as it sounds I will probably never answer that question.
