I hate to see the BAT VK 30 go.

209.109.0.36

It's been wonderfull owning the vk30, I've appreciated what it's done for the music. But along the way I realized there are some area's I wished it could do better.

The vk30's presentation is very involing, it's smooth presentation grain free treble and bass are it's strengths. I just find myself looking for greater detail retreval, dynamics/impact, midrange resolution, imaging, and HF extension. I guess the vk30 is just to suave for my tastes. One of the cd's I know alot and use to test these area's is Clapton's MTV unplug. I realized after puting back the SS pre revealed what's missing. The Bat appears to soften dynamics, and cover details with warmth. High frequency extension is definately lacking. You all probably have an understanding of what I'm after. Please make recommendations I would like to stay within $4000 new or $2000 used. Thanks

I'm considering the following:

BAT vk-40 (another bat but this one may offer better dynamics, HF extension?)
CJ Premier14
CAT SL-1
SF Line 2

Hmm... what about passives?

FT Audio LW-1
Audio Synthesis Ultimate
EVS Ultimate attenuator

System:
Sony 777es
Cary 2a3 monoblocks
Oris 150/PM4a
