Re: 45 Push-Pull Amps

I have one of those 45 PP amps that LarryI was talking about (I have modified it somewhat). Uses Acro 330 OPTs, has unbelievable bass and drive and still manages to retain the 45 magic. I also know someone else here in the DC area with a pair of the Deja Vu 45 PP monoblocks, and I like his alot too (different Acro transformers), and I also have a pair of PP 300b monos with Acro 660's, which is the most single ended sounding PP you will ever hear - except these amps can drive almost anything! I have obtained another pair of Acro 660 OPTs, which I will use to build a DIY PP pair of monoblocks with 300b/45 switchable, with transformer phase splitter and a somewhat different circuit. We'll see how it turns out; my experience with these PP amps using certain Acro OPT's is that they give up little or nothing to the best SE amps (I have several of them as well), yet have a terrific sense of power, assuming the power trannies and power supplies are up to the challenge. I don't know why more people don't build PP 45 or 300b amps with some of these fabulous old OPTs, I've never seen a commmercial PP 45 other than the Deja Vu's (which are more custom than commercial per se). PP may not be politically correct these days, but the right design and parts can produce very special amps.
