Jolida VS ASL ??? Tube amps generally problematic??

Some of you know that I've been looking at getting into tubes but am looking to get in as cheap as possible just in case they aren't for me.

I was looking at a Jolida 202a(uses 4 EL34s) and can get it used(no warranty) for $300.00 Canadian Funds. It has had some problems though with a power switch recently replaced.

The salesman said that Tubes offer great sound but are prone to breakdown 10 times more than solid state etc etc. And he said 10 times is a conservative figure. He noted that exceptions from the ultra high end companies - something "Research" and Carver.

I could go with a new ASL DT15 integrated which will supposedly be $600.00CDN. Or seperate Wave 8s and AQ2004PRE.

I like the idea of tweaking and changing tubes - but not replacing everything due to breakdowns(student budget can't take continual $100.00 shop visits).

What are some problems you folks have with tube amps - how costly are they to maintain - other than the tubes themselves?
