Among the ones I tried...

Okay, it was two years ago when I spent two months lugged aroung my C-J CAV-50 to audition speakers in dealers' rooms and even had a couple of in-house auditions. Since the power sections between CAV-50 and MV-55 are almost identical, my experience should help somewhat...

If you'd like to stick with stand-mounted speakers, try Joseph Audio RM7si. They were auditioned just because RM22 was not availble in time in that store. But anyway they sounded amazingly transparent and plenty dynamic. The presentation is a bit more up-front, but nothing aggressive or harsh.

If you consider floorstanders, I liked both B&W Matrix 804 and 802s3 (my current speakers) the best among speakers I compared at that time. They have a liquid midrange that's almost as good as the Maggies they replaced but being more transparent, dynamic, and more extended. Actually due to larger cabinets and drivers of 802 and limited power of MV-55/CAV-50 the 802 sounded slightly less dynamic than 804, but they were better in every other categories.

Most other floorstanders I tried (Thiel 1.5, M-L Aerius i, Magnepan 1.6) can't be driven to a satisfactory scale and sounded dynamically constrained.

Meadowlard Shearwater was a surprise. I tried hard to convince myself that they are the ones. They were surely easy to drive, but the midrange was just too dense and thick that even the dealer agreed with me that they were not a good match.

Hope I don't offend anyone by saying the above. I'm sure that there are people who enjoy one of them with MV-55/CAV-50. Maybe we just have different priority and taste.

The best thing you can do is trying them with MV-55 yourself. In your price range you might also want to try B&W N805, Soliloque 5.3, and Joseph RM22si.

By the way, the reason I mentioned "dynamic" so many times is because the first thing I found with CAV-50/MV-55 driving a difficult load is that the music sounded dynamically constrained and the soundstage shrunk. It is especially obvious on large scale symphonies. They probably will sound okay with jazz in a small room. But I wanted my system to cover all kinds of music in a medium-size room. So...

So, good luck and have fun in your quest. Keep us updated.
